Physicians for Peace transforms lives by training, supporting and empowering healthcare professionals working with the world’s underserved populations. Since our founding in 1989, Physicians for Peace has deployed thousands of volunteer healthcare professionals on more than 650 missions to 60 countries in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, the Caribbean, Central America and South America.

We are currently seeking a Coordinator, Global Health Programs to work in the corporate office in Norfolk, Virginia.

Job Description

The Coordinator, Global Health Programs will support the Global Health Department in following areas - missions, volunteers, and administration.  The programs supported will include:  Maternal and Child Health, Surgery, Dental Care, Seeing Clearly, Walking Free, and Burn Care.

 

This is a full-time (40+ hours per week), salaried, exempt position which reports to the Senior Director, Global Health Programs.

 

Key Responsibilities

 Mission Support

A.         Create and distribute all mission manuals. Prepare official documentation/letters for customs agencies regarding donated materials.

B.         Use survey tools to record mission output data.

C.         Track and create mission folders and maintain records for historical reference.

D.         Correspond with credit card/phone companies, etc. to alert them of staff travel

E.          Format volunteer reports for submission and approval.

F.          Register all volunteers on Department of State website.

G.         Monitor all Embassy security alerts regarding countries in which we have missions.

H.         Assist with translations as needed. 

  • Volunteers

A.         Accumulate volunteer survey data and create reports that are both informative and easy to read.

B.         Maintain and update volunteer records in database.

C.         Request, collect, and compile all necessary volunteer documentation for mission participation. Create and maintain individual volunteer files with current information.

D.         Write and send thank you notes and other volunteer correspondence.

  • Administration

A.         Creates Medical Operations Committee (MOC) meeting packets and collects supporting documents.

B.         Record minutes for MOC meetings.

C.         Peroform administrative tasks for Global Health office staff including organization of files, mailings, delivery documents,  etc.

D.         Prepare payment requests, with documentation, for approval and submission to Accounting.

E.          Assist with the preparation of departmental reports and summaries for periodic meetings of the MOC, staff, Board of Directors and the Executive Committee.

F.          Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of Associates Degree or equivalent work experience required
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Spanish or French a plus.
  • Ability to work independently. Quick learner with the ability to multi-task.
  • Skilled in use of MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and conducting research online.
  • Sensitive to cultural differences; flexible and diplomatic in interpersonal relations.
  • Passionate about finding sustainable solutions to inequities in global health.

 

Compensation

Salary commensurate with experience.
