We are currently seeking a Director, Gifts in Kind to work in the headquarters office in Norfolk, Virginia.

Job Description

The Director, Gifts in Kind is responsible for the management of PFP’s Gift In Kind (GIK) Program (medical and non-medical) and assistance with other logistics, transport and importation/exportation matters.  This includes the solicitation and cultivation of suppliers/partners, as well as tracking, monitoring and evaluating the GIK provided.  GIK supports our core programmatic areas, including Maternal and Child Health, Surgery, Dental Care, Seeing Clearly, Walking Free, and Burn Care.

 

This is a full-time (40+ hours per week), salaried, exempt position which reports to the Senior Director, Global Health Programs. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop donor relationships and solicit gifts-in-kind to support core program areas. Create a feedback system for the suppliers to receive post mission evaluations and reports.
  • Work with international partners to develop and update an ongoing GIK needs list for each programmatic area. Ensure team members and leaders are solicited for feedback when required supplies are provided. Periodically travel to the host country partners focusing on mission use of GIK supplies and collaboratively developing next steps according to partner needs.
  • Develop and maintain shipping partner relationships. Develop and manage shipping and equipment purchasing budgets.
  • Maintain a detailed inventory of GIK items as well as an accurate database  reference for GIK valuations. Track and submit GIK outcome reports.
  • Serve as additional point of contact with existing and prospective donors, program staff, international partners, and general public.
  • Provide regular updates on GIK to PFP staff, Medical Operations Committee, Executive Committee, and Board of Directors.
  • Facilitate public relations, photography, and media requirements with Director of Communications.
  • Gather and provide program information to Development Department for grant writing/reporting and donor updates. Assist with grant writing as needed.
  • Develop individual project reports as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills. Spanish or French proficiency a plus.
  • Ability to travel overnight several times per year to meet with current and potential GIK suppliers, recipients, and shipping partners as needed.
  • Experience with gift solicitation and fundraising. Familiar with gift in kind relief and development industry standards (eg. Accord Interagency Gifts in Kind Standards, Sphere Handbook 2011).
  • Proven experience developing and managing a budget. Experience in shipping/receiving and inventory management a plus.
  • Previous experience working in the developing world. Passionate about finding sustainable solutions to inequities in global health.
  • Sensitive to cultural differences; flexible and diplomatic in interpersonal relations. Supervisory experience helpful, but not required.
  • Ability to evaluate problems and recommend solutions. Proven self-starter and quick learner with the ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Independent thinker and decision maker requiring limited supervision.
  • Skilled in use of Microsoft Office programs and conducting online research.
  • Adept at program evaluation using needs assessments, cost/benefit analyses, evidence-based outcome measurement and other tools to determine program efficiency and effectiveness. 

Compensation

Salary is commensurate with experience.
