Zach Collett Launches Inspiring Walk-A-Thon Journey for Haiti

April 6, 2010

Haiti is still hurting, so one man is Walking

Zach Collett hopes to raise funds to provide aid for amputees via a walk-a-thon of considerable
scope. Follow Zach on this inspiring journey of brotherly love and determination as he walks
from Washington, DC to Miami, Florida. You can donate as little as ½ cent per mile or as much
as you’d like. Zach’s goal is $10,000 per mile, to raise $10 million dollars. All money raised
through Zach’s walk-a-thon, goes through to his charity of choice, Physicians for Peace, the
Norfolk, VA-based nonprofit that provides medical training for health care providers in the
developing world, to benefit its Walking Free program in Haiti.  The program, which has been in
Haiti since 2005, is now providing prosthetic limbs and physical therapy to the many amputee
victims of the earthquake.
Press Conference at Southern Virginia University at Twelve Noon on Thursday April 8th,
2010. Location is in front of Main Hall. We hope to have many dignitaries from the area in
attendance.
The “KICK OFF” will be Monday April 12, 2010 at 11 a.m. the U.S. Capitol Building, E.
Capitol Street, NE, and 1st Street., NE, Washington, DC 20002. Zach will begin walking down
Route 1, making a few detours in North Carolina, and then continue down to Miami, Florida.
The Lengthen Your Stride program goal is to bring specific aid to the amputee victims of the
Haiti Earthquake. By partnering with accomplished medical professionals and in conjunction
with local leaders in the States, we will raise funds for the Physicians for Peace Walking Free
Program in Haiti and its partner programs with the Haitian Amputee Coalition at the Hôpital
Albert Schweitzer, Healing Hands for Haiti, St. Vincent’s School for Handicapped Children and
others.
By obtaining pledges for every mile travelled the program’s main participant, Zach Collett, will
walk, run, bike, paddle, and propel himself from the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington D.C.
to Bicentennial Park in Miami Florida. We will deepen our ability to amass funding and support
by inviting community members, prominent leaders, professional athletes, and athletic programs
of the universities we pass on route to walk portions of the journey with us while being
sponsored by friends and loved ones.
Sponsorship opportunities are still available. Contact AprilClineMedia@yahoo.com for details or
call 304.283.9701. Zach is in need of hotel, bike, car, gasoline, food, drink, shirt, shoes, shorts,
caps, web cams to document his walk.
A little about Zach….
My name is Zach Collett. I am a college student at Southern Virginia University. I am married
and we are expecting our first baby this summer. I decided I wanted to make a difference for
those that were harmed in the recent earthquake in Port Au Prince Haiti. So this summer, I will
walk from Washington D.C., to Miami Florida. I am walking just over 1,000 miles to raise
money and awareness for hundreds of Haitian amputees who desperately need our help.
