On January 3, 2012, His Excellency Al Maamoun Baba Lamine Kéïta, in the name of the Malian government, proceeded to sign a Memorandum of Understanding to partner with an American NGO. Arriving at the Malian embassy in Washington on this Thursday afternoon, it’s indeed good news that the director of the NGO Physicians for Peace brings to the population of Segou. Through the signing of this MOU, the NGO, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, is committed to providing the Hospital Nianankoro Fomba a blood bank. The equipment has already been sent to the capital of Balanzans (editor note: colloquial term for Segou) and in the coming weeks, the hospital blood bank will be functional. Such assurance has been given by Brigadier General Ron Sconyers, the CEO of Physicians for Peace. In addition to the equipment for the establishment of the blood bank, the NGO Physicians for Peace will also offer one hundred new mattresses and pallets filled with emergency medical supplies. A move which was heralded for its great value. In the name of the Malian government, he thanked the American NGO based in Virginia for this spirit of solidarity which comes at a moment where the need is truly felt.
