Physicians for Peace Core Strategic Goal

Physicians for Peace is a nonprofit organization that exists to "make a difference in people's lives through improving the health and welfare of vulnerable populations through the provision of quality healthcare education and medical care."

Our Board of Trustees, leaders, and staff embrace stewardship as a guiding philosophy of their respective roles and understand it is necessary -- especially during economically challenging periods -- to be efficient, economical, and resourceful as an essential ingredient to our continued ability to support our programs. In fact, our actions and decisions are guided by the following organization goals:

Goal 1Improve the health and welfare of vulnerable populations through the provision of quality healthcare education, medical care and medical supplies which support core priority areas
Goal 2Engage volunteers to support and implement core programs and missions
Goal 3Secure appropriate revenue streams to support operational and programmatic needs of the organization
Goal 4Increase awareness and visibility of PFP to enhance knowledge of organization and support fundraising efforts
Goal 5Improve operational efficiency and effectiveness to maximize organizational potential
Goal 6Build governance and management structures that support current and future goals of the organization
 


Goal 1

Improve the health and welfare of vulnerable populations through the provision of quality healthcare education, medical care and medical supplies which support core priority areas

Objectives

  • Plan and execute programs and training missions based on defined regional/country plans with multi-year strategies to either expand, transition or exit the country
  • Identify new program needs or opportunities based on regional/country plans; as appropriate develop plans to expand
  • Plan and execute clinical care and surgical missions to respond to targeted needs in countries with limited resources
  • Increase the percentage of funding available for each program, regional/country plan and targeted mission
  • Expand organizational impact through strategic and collaborative partnerships

Goal 2
Engage volunteers to support and implement core programs and missions
 
Objectives

  • Execute volunteer recruitment based on identified needs and opportunities    
  • Efficiently support volunteers; provide resources, training and information to allow the effective delivery of core program and mission activities    
  • Develop and implement volunteer recognition efforts

Goal 3
Secure appropriate revenue streams to support operational and programmatic needs of the organization   

Objectives

  • Develop and implement a multi-year restricted revenue stream to expand donor base and revenue; craft three-year funding plans
  • Implement an unrestricted annual revenue stream to expand donor base and revenue; craft three-year plans    
  • Utilize opportunity of 20th Anniversary to maximize fundraising
  • Develop and implement strategic events that bring revenue to the organization or increase awareness, visibility and reputation within target markets  
  • Develop, plan and execute a fundraising campaign in support of the 25th Anniversary   
  • Develop and execute appropriate plan to grow the endowment to $20 million by 25th Anniversary
  • Better utilize and support volunteers to raise money for programs and missions

Goal 4
Increase awareness and visibility of PFP to enhance knowledge of organization and support fundraising efforts

Objectives

  • Develop and execute appropriate communications and marketing plans to increase the reach and efficacy of PFP’s messages to targeted donors
  • Develop and execute appropriate internal communications program for staff and volunteers
  • Improve operational efficiency and effectiveness to support communication and marketing needs  
  • Implement communications and marketing strategies to launch and promote a significant, year-long 25th Anniversary celebration
  • Review and evaluate current imaging, branding and messaging efforts. Consider changes as necessary Utilize opportunity of 20th Anniversary to maximize PR

  • Improve and enhance financial systems
  • Ensure human resources and support systems necessary to implement this plan
  • Implement appropriate HR management systems
  • Implement and manage appropriate database systems to support organization

Build governance & management structures that support current & future goals

  • Ensure long-term diversity and health of the Board through the strategic identification and recruitment of new board members  
  • Ensure organizational goals are achieved
  • Ongoing evaluation and refinement of strategic plans
  • Support active and engaged committees  
  • Ensure the financial health and well-being of the organization
